We’re Oakland natives, so if you live in the East Bay, you’ve likely seen our Lazar Landscape trucks around your neighborhood. We are a full service company that specializes in high end residential landscape design and construction. Our team includes a staff of talented designers, as well as several crews of craftspeople and tradesmen. We all share a passion for building beautiful garden spaces for our clients.

Good fit?

Not every project is right for us, and not every landscape designer is right for you. We mostly work in Alameda and Contra Costa counties, but sometimes we just can’t resist a juicy assignment, and will venture into San Francisco and Marin. Most jobs we do range from $20,000 to $500,000 installed. 

We prefer to work on projects that engage both our designers and construction crews from start to finish. We feel this collaborative approach allows us to work efficiently and deliver a better finished product. Once in a while, we will do a design only or build only project, but that’s the exception, not the rule.

The Lazar in Lazar Landscape?

Gary Lazar founded the firm in 1981 and built it into one of the larger design/build companies in the Easy Bay. In 2012, Gary retired, and Lazar was taken over by senior team members, Pam Cosce and Asa Sanchez. They kept all the good stuff from the original company, and added their own flourishes, as well. Today the company is more committed than ever to creating gardens using modern materials and plants adapted to our changing environments.

Patty L. … Our back yard was a total wreck. The retaining walls and patio were crumbling, there was no proper drainage anywhere, and a 75 foot Cedar had fallen across the yard, crushing the deck. Lazar saw past these ruins, and designed a garden that not only met our practical needs, but utterly enchanted us, and is the envy of our neighbors. They literally created a world out there, an extension to our home that doubles our living space. We now spend crisp mornings and sunny afternoons outside, entertaining family and friends, or simply lounging among the flowers and the hummingbirds.

Rose T. … Lazar redid our backyard. The project involved demolishing an old brick fireplace and concrete patio. Lazar designed and installed a new fireplace, stone patio, planting, lighting and irrigation. The project was completed in less than 60 days. The project team was very professional. The designer was attentive in addressing my concerns. The crew was prompt and meticulous. Lazar brought in an arborist and structural engineer to make sure the installation was safe for us as well as a specimen tree nearby. They did a follow up several months after the completion of the project to make sure all performed as it should.

The installation included new bluestone walls and front steps, a paver driveway, sidewalk cutouts, irrigation and all plant material.
